Christmas Fayres and Markets - 2016

Hidebound is attending two Christmas markets this year, Manchester Christmas Market (we’ll be in Albert Square) from 10th November to 21st December http://www.manchester.gov.uk/christmasmarkets

We’re also attending Bury St Edmunds Christmas Fayre, (we’ll be on Angel Hill) from 24th – 27th November http://www.burystedmundschristmasfayre.co.uk/

Christmas Markets have a long history in Europe and particularly Germany.  One of the first in the UK was Lincoln, still operating, which was started by the town twinning committee, probably 30 years ago, when they invited friends from their German twin town to trade in Lincoln for Christmas.  It was then a very small market with only a few stalls, but it has built up to be one of the largest in the UK covering the majority of the historic upper town and now run by the town council.the Manchester Christmas Market covers a larger area spread over much of the town centre from Albert Square, St Ann`s Square and up to and beyond the Arndale Centre. It boasts many continental stalls covering a mouth-watering selection of  German and Dutch

The Manchester Christmas Market covers a larger area spread over much of the town centre from Albert Square, St Ann`s Square and up to and beyond the Arndale Centre. It boasts many continental stalls covering a mouth-watering selection of  German and Dutch cheeses, German sausages, German and French salamis as well as many continental and UK craft stalls.

The Bury St Edmund Christmas Fayre is much smaller but a very select event centred on Angel Hill and spreading into the Cathedral gardens; wonder what St Edmund, who is buried there, thinks of it?

Both events are very well worth visiting and please make yourselves known to us if you go to both or either.
