Early Medieval Leather Jack
This jack is hand made from one piece of leather for both the handle and the body and is acceptable as an authentic design for many historical periods from the early Medieval times onwards. Our early medieval Jacks are finished with stitching around the base.
Of particular interest to re-enactors, this jack can be used to depict any period from early medieval to The Crimean War times. This style of jack continued to be made and used throughout the following centuries until the time of Nelson and Trafalgar when the sailors on the Victory still drank from jacks of this shape.
Alternatively, it is a pleasant jack from which to simply enjoy a drink, whether or not you are historically minded.
Historically, leather jacks and tankards were lined with either boiled Resin of the birch tree, Brewer’s Pitch, or Beeswax. Our full grain leather jacks are lined with an epoxy resin to echo the historic use of resin whilst having the visual appearance of Brewer’s pitch. The resin we use is fully certified for use in both the food and alcohol industries.
All our beer tankards and jacks are handmade from natural materials which can never be consistent in colour. Whilst every endeavour is made to control colour consistency, each item is offered as an individual piece. However, it will always be the actual colour ordered.
